Beamish & The Northumbrian Coast
The Schooner Hotel
he freshest air you have ever breathed, the most open landscapes, the warmest welcome: That is the promise of Northumberland - England's Border Country - a County where you can truly relax and unwind. The Alnwick Garden is Northumberland's most visited tourist attraction whilst the adjacent castle has been the setting for scenes in several major feature films, including the first two Harry Potter films. The town was voted "Best Place in Britain to Live" by Country Life magazine. So it is not hard to understand Alnwick's growing reputation across the country as a "must see" visitor destination. The famous Schooner Hotel, a listed 17th century coaching inn only 100 yards from the beach and golf course, has been the hub of Alnmouth village since its first customer back in the 1600's, and remains one of the most well known and respected hotels in the North East of England. The Schooner Hotel is also famous or should it be infamous as the 'The Most Haunted Hotel' in Great Britain. The hotel was featured in the television series 'Most Haunted' on LIVINGtv. Day 1: After our morning tea/coffee break we will continue our journey for an extended visit (approx 3 hours) to the beautiful cathedral city of Durham, where there is so much to see and do. We then proceed to our hotel in ample time to prepare for evening meal. Day 2: A delightful trip down Memory Lane as we visit Beamish Open Air Museum. This superb living museum depicts life in the North of England in the early 1900's. Day 3: Today we take the lovely coastal route as far as the delightful town of Bamburgh, with its superb castle, where we will spend some time before returning to Alnwick for our included visit. Day 4: Today allows you the opportunity to explore Alnmouth and the many quaint villages in the vicinity. Day 5: Unfortunately we must bid farewell, but we will pay a visit to Gateshead Metro Centre before continuing our journey home.
