This attractive small hotel has a sunny southerly aspect situated on the Marine Parade overlooking the sea, and a short walk from the pier and shops. All rooms are en suite, with colour satellite TV, tea & coffee making facilities, hair dryer and direct dial telephone. There is no lift, but there are a few ground floor rooms available. 1. CONSTABLE COUNTRY & COLCHESTER
We travel first to Dedham Vale, in the heart of Constable Country, where the images in his most famous paintings were inspired. We visit East Bergholt, where he was born, to see the church and famous bell cage. His former studio is in the village, and Flatford Mill is a short downhill walk away. We continue to Colchester, Britain's oldest recorded town, which still has long stretches of Roman fortifications as well as a splendid Norman keep. But it's not just heritage and history that attracts more than 4.5 million visitors to Colchester each year; today it is a thriving modern town with many great visitor attractions, and a shopaholic's paradise.
2. WILKIN JAMS OF TIPTREE & CHELMSFORD
After a leisurely breakfast we make our way to Wilkin Jams of Tiptree, famous for delicious natural preserves, jams, marmalades and curds, hand made from the finest ingredients. We have time here to explore the shop and tea room before continuing to Chelmsford, the County Town of Essex. Apart from being the best shopping centre in Essex there are numerous parks with riverside walks, museums, antique centres, international restaurants, pubs, cafes, and wine bars to keep you occupied.
