1. LAKE DISTRICT TOWNS & VILLAGES
It would be advisable to take your camera today as our journey takes us on a circular tour of some of the most popular southern Lake District towns & villages. We travel via Newby Bridge and Coniston Water, on which Sir Donald Campbell was killed in 1967 making an attempt on the world speed record in his speedboat Bluebird. We will make a shortish stop in Coniston Village before continuing to the very picturesque village of Hawkshead, with its cobbled lanes and interesting connections. William Wordsworth attended Hawshead Grammar School, and it was also the setting for Beatrix Potter's 'The Tale of Johnny Townmouse'. We then continue to the bustling town of Ambleside, with loads of bookshops, gift shops, cafes and restaurants. Our final visit is to Bowness on Windermere, a great place to shop, take a lake cruise, or simply watch the bustle of steamers arriving and departing from Bowness Bay.
2. ELEGANT SOUTHPORT
Situated on the coast just 20 miles north of Liverpool is the traditional Victorian seaside town of Southport - a resort with everything. Beautiful beaches, great attractions, and the UK's oldest iron pier. The new 'Waterfront Development' on the promenade is a delight, and there are many impressive parks and gardens to enjoy. That is not all; if it's style and sophistication you're after then look no further than world famous Lord Street, featuring everything from top high street names to high quality specialist retailers.
