Included excursions:
1. MELTON MOWBRAY, OAKHAM & BARNSDALE GARDENS
Tuesday is market day in Melton Mowbray. We enjoy the gentle countryside as we make our way to this famous Leicestershire market town. Visit Ye Olde Pork Pie Shoppe, and find out what makes Melton Mowbray the home of the pork pie and stilton cheese. There is plenty to see and do here, so we will allow time for lunch before continuing our circular route to the charming town of Oakham and the fabulous Barnsdale Gardens.
2. WARWICK AND ROYAL LEAMINGTON SPA
A day out in Warwick and Royal Leamington Spa is our special treat today. An opportunity to visit the magnificent Warwick Castle, a splendid fortress towering over the banks of the River Avon on a site first fortified by William the Conqueror in 1068. Apart from the castle, there are loads of attractions to keep you occupied. The town has a mix of historic buildings to admire, and a wealth of antique and gift shops to investigate. In the afternoon we travel to nearby Royal Leamington Spa with its lovely Georgian town centre with a Spa in the Royal Pump rooms, and one of the finest shopping centres in the area. If you are not up for shopping, just relax and enjoy the beautiful Jephson Gardens in the centre of the town with the River Leam flowing to the south of them.
DAY AT LEISURE Market Bosworth, just a short walk from the hotel, is a small, attractive, and historically interesting town. The town centre is a conservation area, with many old buildings surrounding the Market Place. There are a number of shops, pubs and restaurants, and three churches. The Bosworth Battlefield Visitor Centre, the site where King Richard III was defeated by the future Henry VII is well worth a visit. You can see an award winning interpretation of the battle, with the visitor centre giving a complete insight into medieval times.
